     Martha Jane Cordes was born on 9 November 1860 at 41 West St, Bermondsey, London, Surrey, England; Duncan Chaundy has a copy of the birth certificate. Duncan's letter(private communication to John Cordes) says the address (41 West St) was in the Parish of St Mary Magdalene, sub-district of Saint James, Surrey. She was the daughter of Henry Cordes and Jane Olive Burberry. Martha Jane Cordes married Henry Albert Churchill, son of James Churchill and Mary Stokes, on 3 June 1893 at Staffordshire, England. Martha Jane Cordes died on 12 April 1942 at Reading, Berkshire, England, at age 81.
     Martha Jane Cordes appeared on the 1871 Census Birmingham, in the household of her parents, Henry Cordes and Jane Olive Burberry.^1,2 Martha Jane Cordes was the registrant for the death of Henry Cordes on 7 July 1880 at Walsall, Staffordshire, England.³ Martha Jane Cordes appeared on the census of 1881 at Highbury Corner Music Shop, London, Middlesex, England, living with her aunt Fanny Maria King (her mother's sister).⁴ She appeared on the census of 1891 at Reading, Berkshire, England, as an elementary school teacher.⁵ She was the registrant for the death of Jane Olive Burberry on 20 January 1895 at Birmingham, England.⁶

     Bertram Henry Churchill was born on 22 October 1898. He was the son of Henry Albert Churchill and Martha Jane Cordes. Bertram Henry Churchill married Freda Makinson in 1923. Bertram Henry Churchill died after 1963.

     Henry Abner Cordes was born on 7 February 1866 at Cape Town, South Africa.¹ He was the son of Henry Cordes and Jane Olive Burberry. Henry Abner Cordes married Jennie Armour Edwards, daughter of Robert Henry Edwards and Annie Andrews, on 31 July 1901 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia.² Henry Abner Cordes died on 17 December 1926 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, at age 60.³ He was buried at St. John's Cemetery, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
     Henry Abner Cordes appeared on the census of 1871 at 35 Alston St, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.⁴ He appeared on the 1871 Census Birmingham, in the household of his parents, Henry Cordes and Jane Olive Burberry.^4,5 On the census of 1881 he appeared as a "clerk general", living at at 30 Devonshire St, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, age 15; he was listed as a British Subject, with birthplace given as Cape Town, Africa.⁶

     Margaret Priscilla Moser was born on 23 October 1867 at Moser River, Halifax County, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of John Henry Moser and Margaret Ann MacDonald. Margaret Priscilla Moser married Edward Greenwood, son of Thomas Greenwood and Hannah Fort, on 28 May 1895 at Todmorden, Yorkshire, England. Margaret Priscilla Moser married George Richard Shellnutt, son of Capt. George Francis Shellnutt and Margaret Ann Smith, on 30 March 1921 at Necum Teuch, Nova Scotia. Margaret Priscilla Moser died on 4 February 1946 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, at age 78.¹ She was buried on 7 February 1946 at Camp Hill Cemetery, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
     Margaret Priscilla Moser also appeared on the 1891 Census of Halifax, Halifax County , in the household of Stephen R Davidson and Annie Wood; she was recorded as Maggie Mosher.² Margaret Priscilla Moser appeared on the 1891 Census of Moser River, Halifax County, in the household of her mother, Margaret Ann MacDonald.³ The UK Incoming Passenger Lists record a "Mary Moser", age 24, embarking Halifax on the Allan Line Royal Mail Steamer "Parisian" and arriving Liverpool, April 21, 1895. The name on the scanned image could be read as "Margt" though it looks somewhat more like "Mary". Despite this problem with the name, and the age discrepancy, I am reasonably convinced that this entry is for Margaret "Maggie" Moser, on her way to England to marry Edward Greenwood the following month.
     Margaret Priscilla Moser and Edward Greenwood appeared on the 1901 Census of Broughton, Manchester, enumerated 31 March 1901. Their children Muriel and Marjorie were listed as living with them. Margaret (Moser) Greenwood returned to Canada with her two children in February 1919, on the Canadian Pacific ship "Melita". Edward Greenwood had died in 1915, and this trip, just three months after the end of the war, was the earliest opportunity she found to return home. The ship sailed from Liverpool on the 19th or the 20th of February and arrived in Saint John, New Brunswick on either the last day of February or the first of March, 1919.

     Maria Muriel Greenwood was born on 11 July 1896 at Manchester, Lancashire, England. She was the daughter of Edward Greenwood and Margaret Priscilla Moser. Muriel died on 1 July 1977 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, at age 80.

     Thomas Greenwood was born circa 1831.¹ He was the son of Elias Greenwood and Betty Crossley. Thomas Greenwood married Hannah Fort, daughter of William Fort and Alice (?), on 15 March 1856 at Yorkshire, England.² Thomas Greenwood died on 27 December 1916 at Todmorden, Yorkshire, England.³

Their children Alice, Sarah, James, Arthur, John, Elizabeth Ann and Edward were listed as living with them.⁵ Thomas Greenwood appeared on the 1911 Census Todmorden, enumerated 2 April 1911. His children Alice, John and Jane were listed as living with him.⁶

     Hannah Fort was born circa 1835.¹ She was the daughter of William Fort and Alice (?). Hannah Fort married Thomas Greenwood, son of Elias Greenwood and Betty Crossley, on 15 March 1856 at Yorkshire, England.² Hannah Fort died on 26 December 1901 at Todmorden, Yorkshire, England.³
